Back in 1998, my parents bought me a Game Boy Camera, which I played with for a bit. Back then, it just seemed like the best thing to have if you had a Game Boy. For a while, it was the smallest and most readily available Digital Camera at the time. It was pretty fascinating to put your face in video games. I took photos of myself and played its mini games, then moved on to other video games as usual.
Some time in 2014, I found my Red-colored Game Boy Camera and then I made some phone calls to some video game stores in the area in order to find a working Game Boy Printer. The one I bought from a seller on Amazon was broken and I didn't start being a Game Boy Camera Photographer earlier (not to mention my personal life). Later that year in September, I took my Game Boy setup to Wasteland Weekend where I just went around offering to take people's photos and then print them on the spot. Since then, I kept going to places and kept taking and printing photos.
In October 2018, I attended the Adult Swim Festival with the Game Boy setup and someone suggested I get on Instagram. My work and family life kept me busy for a while, so I didn't bother with having more Social Media. Personally, I wanted to avoid some habits "Social Media types" are known for and yet, I found the concept of being someone who unloads Game Boy Photos on the Internet pretty cool. After the Adult Swim Festival, I created an Instagram account, followed by Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr.
In the years I've been taking photos with a Game Boy Camera, I would usually take a photo of either the screen or the print from the Printer with my Smart Phone. Making a copy of the print, then having it scanned was also an option. All the photos I've taken eventually made their way onto my Social Media platforms. Rather than take photos of the Game Boy Screen or the Print, I use a device made for digitally transferring images.
In April 2019, I was interviewed by the LATimes.com about my experience for a story on Game Boy's at 30 years old. I was then inspired to conduct a Panel for conventions called "Retro Gaming Today," in which I cover Retro Gaming Relevance. For Comic-Con International, I participated in a panel called "Bringing Video Games Into Reality". For Comic-Con 2023, I helped organize a Panel for "Comics, Music, and Games." At some other conventions, I do live demonstrations of 3D Modeling with TinkerCAD.
I have also been inspired by the Fallout games to place sets of Vault Boy Bobbleheads in different cities. Cities so far: San Diego, Los Angeles, Phoenix, San Francisco, Wasteland Weekend (2017), Washington D.C., Boston, West Virginia, Oregon, and Seattle.
I've been a fan of the Fallout franchise for years. In late 2017, I made the snow globes that can be found in Fallout: New Vegas just for fun. In the Summer of 2019, I placed the snow globes in Las Vegas. Read about that story by clicking here. In the Fall of 2020, I went back to Las Vegas with another round of snow globes and recorded my trip for a Documentary. Click Here to view the details of my 2nd Snow Globe Road Trip. The Documentary is available to watch for FREE. There will be a sequel.
The sequel to Las-New: A Fallout Snow Globe Trip that goes even further in exploring Fallout's influence. Featuring appearances by Keith Szarabajka, Joe Ochman, Ogie Banks, Inon Zur, Dr. David Schwartz, Old Man Liver (Pioneer Saloon), Gordi (Easy Pete). Click the video and watch for free.
